San Francisco 49ers: 10 Players with a Lot to Prove in 2016
By Peter Panacy
Linebacker Corey Lemonier
Outside linebacker Corey Lemonier has been a bust since San Francisco selected him in Round 3 of the 2013 NFL draft.
And to think the Niners traded up to get him that round.
The former Auburn pass-rusher has done nothing of the sort at the pro level and has registered a mere 27 tackles and one sack since joining the 49ers.
Two seasons ago, Lemonier had a chance to shine when former 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was suspended nine games. When Smith was released at the start of 2015, Lemonier could have climbed the depth chart.
As it turned out, Lemonier appeared in just 10 contests and was regularly inactive on Sundays.
This probably didn’t help his case:
With fellow linebacker Eli Harold vying for more snaps — added to the likelihood of the Niners adding more pass-rushers at the position this offseason — Lemonier’s future doesn’t look too good in San Francisco.
He may be on his way out before the season begins.
