2016 NFL Draft: 10 Players the San Francisco 49ers Should Target
By Peter Panacy
The 2016 NFL draft will provide the San Francisco 49ers with a number of opportunities to improve their current roster. With as many as 12 picks, which players should the Niners target?
The San Francisco 49ers will need a lot of help this offseason, and they’ll have their chances in free agency as well as the 2016 NFL draft.
Coming off a 5-11 season and a woefully inadequate effort on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, the Niners may be en route to a wholesale overhaul of the roster carrying over from 2015. Pick a position and, chances are, the 49ers need an upgrade there.
San Francisco owns the No. 7 overall pick in the draft and has up to 12 picks in the NFL draft, per David Fucillo of Niners Nation. Six of these picks come between Rounds 3 and 5, which should provide general manager Trent Baalke ample opportunity to land some solid mid-range prospects.
Or, as he has often done, the 49ers could elect to use some of those additional picks as a part of a trade package to move up in various rounds as necessary.
And with so many needs across the board, chances are the Niners can simply take the best player available when their number is called. It’s a fortunate luxury in spite of a talent-lacking roster and something San Francisco hasn’t experienced much in recent seasons.
So who should be the targets for the 49ers in this year’s draft?
Let’s dive into 10 of these possible prospects and determine why each should be on the Niners’ radar — detailing the pros, cons and the overall fit as the draft nears.
