No. 6: The 1987 49ers

Regular-Season Record: 13-2, first place in the NFC West

The 1987 was shortened one game by a strike, but that didn’t do much to stop the 49ers seemingly endless momentum of the decade.

San Francisco boasted the NFL’s best record that year and took its 13-2 mark back into the playoffs for the fifth-consecutive season.

Not surprisingly, quarterback Joe Montana had yet another All-Pro campaign with 31 passing touchdowns against 13 interceptions and a passer rating of 102.1 on the season.

But fellow QB Steve Young was also entering into the mix. And with head coach Bill Walsh alternating the two, Young would go onto have a passer rating of 120.8 and throw 10 touchdowns against zero interceptions.

Controversy aside, the 1987 49ers would finish with the league’s best offense and third-best defense.

San Francisco would lose in the divisional round, but the 49ers would more than make up for the defeat over the next two seasons with back-to-back Super Bowl titles.
