2016 Free Agency: Offseason Wish List for San Francisco 49ers
NFL free agency is right around the corner. The San Francisco 49ers need to have a large shopping list to help fill a lot of holes on this roster. Niner Noise takes a look at five current free agents who should be on the 49ers wish list for 2016.
The 49ers had an underachieving 2015 season, which resulted in a complete turning over of the coaching staff. The 49ers ranked poorly in all areas (offense, defense and special teams) and each unit will be looking for a big turnaround next season to help take this team back to a winning record and hopefully a playoff berth.
There are many unanswered questions currently with this team. Several big name players are free agents. Others are coming off season-ending injuries. What philosophies and schemes will be implemented by the new coaching staff? Nothing can officially be answered until the new league year starts March 9.
We know who is a free agent right now. There are a few hot commodities right now who are likely to stay with their current team at a minimum through the franchise tag — Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller and Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman are the best examples.
There are others whose 2015 performance don’t match their salary, and the 49ers would be better off to avoid — Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford and former Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte are the best examples under this scenario.
There are several other current free agents who the 49ers should take a long hard look at. For this list three factors are taken into account on why these players should be targeted:
- 2015 performance
- salary/cap hit
- age and potential future production
Human nature will appear in some cases because, well, we all have certain players that we find better than others.
Please feel free to compile your list before starting through our wish list of free agents. Which players do you think will be on the list?
