2016 NFL Draft: Round 1 Mock for All 32 Teams
By Peter Panacy
No. 3: San Diego Chargers
2015 Record: 4-12
The Pick: DE Joey Bosa, Ohio State
The San Diego Chargers have plenty of offensive needs, but getting yardage doesn’t appear to be one of them. The offense ranked No. 9 in the NFL last season with 5,949 all-purpose yards.
Offensive contributors will be a necessity for the Chargers this offseason. But going that route in Round 1 should take a different approach.
Instead, the Chargers need to shore up the defensive side of the ball. This unit finished the season with the 21st-ranked defense and also gave up an astounding 2,005 yards on the ground. San Diego’s defense needs playmakers to accompany budding inside linebacker Denzel Perryman.
Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa would be that pick. He’s the most enticing defensive player in this year’s draft and would add serious prowess to San Diego’s defense right away — especially considering the way the rest of the AFC West is going right now.
