2016 NFL Draft: 5 Best Options for San Francisco 49ers in Round 1
By Jerod Brown
Honorable Mentions
Mackensie Alexander
Alexander is a cornerback from Clemson University that continues to generate some traction leading up to the NFL draft. The 49ers have multiple young defensive backs but currently lack a true shutdown corner. Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller ranks Alexander as his second cornerback in the draft but recently suggested that might change.
The 49ers may not see a cornerback as a need but Alexander is an absolute stud in man coverage.
Myles Jack
The UCLA linebacker/running back was injured during practice early in the season but should still hear his name called on the first day of the draft. Jack, who plays both linebacker and running back for the Bruins, is expected to primarily play linebacker when he enters the NFL.
Jack will bring incredible versatility and can step right in to be an explosive special teams member even as a rookie. The injury, in addition to having another linebacker rated higher, forces Jack just outside of the 49ers potential options.
Paxton Lynch
Lynch is massive, standing at 6’7” and weighing 245 pounds. The Memphis quarterback has a build like Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco but is significantly more athletic as a runner.
Lynch is climbing boards quick after an impressive start to the 2015 season despite losing to Auburn in the team’s bowl game. The 49ers will have better options at quarterback but Lynch will certainly be mentioned in the process.
