The San Francisco 49ers will play their final road game of the 2015 NFL season against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Week 16. Niner Noise previews this matchup and details what to look for this Sunday after Christmas.
The 2015 NFL season is winding down to a close for the San Francisco 49ers as they prepare to take on the Detroit Lions in Week 16 — a game kicking off at 1 p.m. ET at Ford Field.
For San Francisco, 2015 can’t come to a close soon enough. This season has been a literal disaster from the conclusion of last year up through the 49ers’ 4-10 record through 14 games.
Facing the 49ers will be a 5-9 Lions team that has also endured its fair share of struggles.
But the Lions have won four out of their last six contests and are coming off a 35-27 road victory over the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football.
Meanwhile, San Francisco has lost four of its last six game — not exactly a good finish for first-year head coach Jim Tomsula and Co.
Despite both teams’ lackluster records, the 49ers don’t appear to have much of a chance entering this final road bout. Only one of San Francisco’s four victories this season have come away from Levi’s Stadium, and the 49ers defense — considerably better at home — is averaging 31.4 points per game on the road.
That doesn’t bode well for a San Francisco offense averaging 14.4 points per game in 2015.
Still, the 49ers will look to finish this season on a strong note. Regardless where the Niners stand, San Francisco will want to display some pride and effort to wrap up what has otherwise been a forgettable year.
Let’s take a look at what’s on the table in Week 16.
