NFL Sends 49ers Memo Regarding Free Agents
Much to the disdain of the 49er Faithful Jim Harbaugh’s expressed confidence in quarterback Alex Smith has not only assured he will be back next season but will most likely be the starter. The 49er Faithful are not the only ones taking issue with Harbaugh’s comments on Smith returning to the team as the NFL recently sent the team a memo asking them not to discuss free agents during the lockout. Inside the 49ers blog reported, Team spokesman Bob Lange confirmed the NFL had reached out to the team after Harbaugh balked at the mention of Smith’s name during [...]
San Francisco 49ers Practice during Lockout
The NFL lockout means the San Francisco 49ers cannot organize practices at team facilities in Santa Clara and players cannot meet with new head coach Jim Harbaugh to learn the offense and defense he wants to install. The players however can organize their own practices whether they are under contract, a free agent, recent draft pick or a local product that did not get selected in April’s draft. Quarterback’s David Carr, Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick joined with rookie wide receiver Ronald Johnson and others on the practice field circumventing the lockout. Players can meet at will and practice with [...]
Aldon Smith Highlight Video
This post was written by Matt Hamm Here is a highlight video of Aldon Smith’s college career. Reminds me a lot of DeMarcus Ware, don’t miss the 0:33 mark vs. Nevada and Colin Kaepernick.
Poll: Should the 49ers be on HBO’s Hard Knocks?
With recent news that HBO has been rejected by the Broncos, Lions and Buccaneers to appear in this year’s Hard Knocks it seems as if the popular TV show might find it harder this time around to get a team on board. Some of it has to do with the Jets last year appearing on the show as Rex Ryan’s ego and vulgarity were on full display. Ryan can cuss up a storm all he wants it’s when he combines it with his ego and trash talking that people outside of Jets fans circle could not watch. The main reason [...]
What to do with Nate Clements
This post was written by Matt Hamm A few weeks back I took a look at the 49ers pending free agency. One player left off that list was cornerback Nate Clements who is technically still under contract with the San Francisco 49ers. Clements should have been on that list in hindsight the team has made no secret of the fact that Clements must re-structure his current deal to remain a 49er in 2011. Many people mocked the 49ers for giving Clements an eight-year $80 million deal in the 2007 offseason (then a record for a defensive player) calling it a [...]
49ers to Honor Joe Perry
Former 49ers great Joe Perry who recently passed away on April 25 will be honored by the franchise he played 14 seasons with in the AAFC and NFL with a decal on player’s helmets. Perry was elected to the Hall of Fame, selected to three Pro Bowls and was the first running back to rush for consecutive 1,000 yard seasons. It is great that the 49ers will honor Perry who is an important player in the team’s history helping grow the young franchise. Perry was a star in his day and in the 2011 season his number will be worn [...]
49ers Seventh Round Draft Pick Bruce Miller
This post was written by Jared Quan It was clear by the sixth round picks by the 49ers that head coach Jim Harbaugh and special teams coordinator Brad Seely were putting into place the great foundations for a seriously tough special teams. They continued this trend into the seventh round with the bruising Bruce Miller. Some experts had projected him to go in the fourth round, and he was a steal in the seventh. During his healthy four year career at the University of Central Florida, Miller produced 208 tackles, 6 forced fumbles, 3 interceptions, 2 touchdowns, and 1 blocked [...]
With the NFL draft almost a month behind us in a non-lockout off season the San Francisco 49ers would be getting their first looks at their recent draft picks with mini-camps. Because of the lockout recent Niner draft picks cannot workout with their new teammates at team headquarters and start learning the 49ers offense and defense. The lockout does not seem to be ending anytime soon but with what we have heard and seen about the newest 49ers who do you think will most likely to have a breakout season.
Colin Kaepernick, Steve DeBerg, and More …
This post was written by Peter Babb Maybe there were draft experts in 1979, when the 49ers drafted Joe Montana in the third round. If there were, they might have said the same things The Sporting News said about Colin Kaepernick: Is a smart young man who can take control of the offense in key situations and gets his teammates to raise the level of their play. Has a knack for coming through with the big play when his team needs it most. If it translates to the NFL, boy do the 49ers have a great prospect. Because, all the [...]
New Reason 49ers Should Trade for Kevin Kolb
With recent draft pick Colin Kaepernick and Jim Harbaugh’s love affair with Alex Smith both will most likely be the two quarterbacks for the 49ers next season. The Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks did not select a quarterback in the draft so both teams will either go through free agency or with current quarterbacks on their roster. Matt Hasselbeck could re-sign with the Seahawks but they have Charlie Whitehurst who is an unproven quarterback but has all the signs of a solid quarterback. The Cardinals started four quarterbacks last season and none are desirable starters for next season. There is [...]
