San Francisco 49ers (5-8) vs. San Diego Chargers (7-6) Qualcomm Stadium Kickoff: 5:20 PM (PST) Success of Alex Smith: Alex Smith not only regained the starting role at quarterback last week but also regained his confidence.  With a full playbook at his disposal offensive coordinator Mike Johnson called plays last week that Smith was comfortable with.  Those plays included what Smith is most known for which is short passes and checkdown’s.  That worked against the Seahawks but against the Chargers Johnson and Smith will need to take chances down the field with the long pass.  Smith has made his most [...]

With a short week playing on Thursday Night Football the San Francisco 49ers quickly go from their biggest win of the season to the biggest game of the season.  The 49ers don’t get to savor the victory for too long knowing they are going on the road against the Chargers  who have lost only one time in four years in December under Norv Turner.  Mike Singletary and his coaches only have 96 hours between Sunday’s win and Thursday’s kickoff to come up with a game plan to stop the Chargers who at 7-6 are a lot more dangerous than their record [...]

The 49ers stayed alive for the NFC West divisional crown with a beat down of the Seahawks yesterday winning 40-21.  The 49ers also got redemption for the week one embarrassment at the hands of the Seahawks with the 49ers losing 31-6.  I was in attendance at the game along with a friend who is a Seahawks fan.  It was great to be able to talk trash from the very beginning of the game with Vernon Davis’ 42-yard touchdown run three and a half minutes into the game.  With the score 30-7 in favor of the 49ers at halftime I couldn’t [...]
