Mike Singletary’s Desperate Decisions

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, Popular, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

Mike Singletary has an uncanny ability to make head scratching decisions.  His most recent decision to name Troy Smith as the starting quarterback is his most desperate one to date.  Smith who has not started an NFL game since 2007 will be the starting quarterback this Sunday in London in front 85,000 fans half a world away.  Singletary is trying to save the 49ers season but naming Troy Smith the starting quarterback is such a shot in the dark it smacks of desperation.  In Singletary’s mind he is thinking ‘why not throw Troy Smith out there he can’t be any [...]

Troy Smith Will Start in London

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Breaking News, Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, Injuries, Popular, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

Third-string quarterback Troy Smith will start the game in London on Sunday.  Alex Smith will be out two to three weeks with a separated left shoulder.  Mike Singletary apparently has given up on second stringer David Carr.  I don’t blame Singletary with the way Carr played in relief but I am not sure what to make of Smith, the Troy, starting.  It seems like the move is an experiment to mimic a Michael Vick type offense but why experiment now?  If Singletary is trying to think outside of the box why not throw Nate Davis in there?  I don’t think [...]

49ers Hand Panthers Their First Win

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, Popular, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

We lost Sunday’s game against the Panthers for two reasons.  First, tackle Anthony Davis could not pass block anyone yesterday even if his life depended on it.  Second, because Davis could not block successfully Alex Smith re-injured his left shoulder he had surgery on and missed the rest of the game with the score tied.  Sure, letting Panthers quarterback Matt Moore pass for over 300 yards also contributed to the loss but the 49ers had opportunities to close out the game but could not with backup quarterback David Carr.  To all the 49er Faithful who chanted for Carr all season, [...]

49ers vs. Panthers: Five Things to Watch Out For

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, Popular, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

San Francisco 49ers (1-5) vs. Carolina Panthers (0-5) Bank of America Stadium Kickoff: 10:00 AM (PST) . 49ers young offensive line vs. Panthers young defensive line: The Panthers have the youngest team in the NFL this season.  When you look at their defensive line outside of tackle Tyler Brayton the starters have only four years or less of experience.  The 49ers have two rookies on their offensive line, tackle Anthony Davis and guard Mike Iupati, and both have struggled this season while learning how to play in the NFL.  This week presents a good opportunity for Davis and Iupati to [...]

Santa Clara Stadium Delayed

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Fanzone/Tailgating, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

San Francisco 49ers team President Jed York announced yesterday a one year delay for opening a new stadium in Santa Clara.   The earliest the Santa Clara site will open is in 2015.  York said a major reason for the delay was because there is no collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the NFL and the players.  ”But without (a collective bargaining agreement) that adequately recognizes the costs of new stadiums and other capital expenses required to generate revenue that largely goes to the players, the 49ers and the NFL cannot make a major investment in a new stadium at this time.” [...]

The Enemy: 49ers vs. Panthers

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, Popular, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

Over at Cat Crave Radio, a Carolina Panthers web cast show part of the Fansided.com Sports Network, I recently answered some questions from host John White about the upcoming matchup between the 49ers and Panthers.  To check it out click HERE, my segment starts at around the 30 minute mark but I recommend listening to the whole web cast show as it gives a great preview of what to expect from the 0-5 Panthers. .

49ers First Win!

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, Popular, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

In the 49ers first game of the season where the offense did not commit any turnovers the Red and Gold notched their first victory of the 2010 regular season.  In the 49ers first game where the defense won the turnover battle forcing two interceptions the 49ers notched their first victory of the 2010 regular season.  There is no coincidence that the 49ers won turnover battle and won the game, plain and simple.  If you limit your mistakes and capitalize on your opponents miscues a W in the win column usually follows.  A 17-9 victory over the Raiders was not anything [...]

Raiders vs. 49ers: Five Things to Watch Out For

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, Popular, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Oakland Raiders (2-3) vs. San Francisco 49ers (0-5) Bill Walsh Field at Candlestick Park Kickoff: 1:05 PM (PST) . . . Oakland Injuries: Jason Campbell will start at quarterback as Bruce Gradkowski has not practiced because of an injured right shoulder.  There is really no advantage in which Raiders QB is under center against the 49ers.  Campbell had his starting job taken away but he can still throw the ball deep which is something the 49ers defense is weak against.  The 49ers defensive line will need to step up the pressure and not give Campbell the time to look for [...]
