49er Poll Questions
After a 0-3 start and the firing of Jimmy Raye I wanted to gauge how the 49er Faithful are feeling headed into week four. Here are four poll questions. Feel free to add comments:
49ers Lose Third Straight Game, Fire Jimmy Raye
Frustration. That is the one word that described my feeling from late in the third quarter of the 49ers 31-10 beating by the Chiefs until I went to sleep on Sunday. Frustration with the coaches, the players and the front office. Frustrated as I saw two other 0-2 teams that were picked for the playoffs get their first win as the 49ers fell to 0-3 and are now the worst team in the NFC West. Do you think the 49ers would have played as well against the Redskins as the Rams did on Sunday? I say no. The game analysis [...]
Inside the Enemy Camp: Chiefs
This week Niner Noise teamed up with the Kansas City Chiefs blog ArrowheadAddict.com in a segment we call Inside the Enemy Camp. Patrick Allen answered my questions below. Check out my answers Inside the Enemy Camp: 49ers for the matchup in week 3. 1. The Chiefs offense had a hard time gaining yards against the Chargers in week one but the defense and special teams came up big to hold onto the win. Do you think the weather had a lot to do with stopping the Chargers offense or is the Chiefs defense just underrated? I think it is a little of both. [...]
49ers Defeat Themselves with Four Turnovers
The only way I was going to accept a 49ers loss against the Saints on Monday night was a great game by Alex Smith, the offense and having the defense slow down the Saints attack enough times to give the offense scoring opportunities. Done and done but the 49ers also had four turnovers and a safety early in the game which was the difference between a win and loss. “I feel a lot of emotions, frustrated. In the end, it’s a loss just like last week. Lose by one, lose by whatever, it doesn’t matter,” said Alex Smith So true [...]
After Monday night’s game against the New Orleans Saints it will be either redemption, relevance or rout for the 49ers. Redemption will come with a win against the defending Super Bowl champs on a nationally televised game. Relevance will come with a loss however only if the 49ers play well on both sides of the football and stay in the game until the final minutes. Rout means a loss, a huge loss like last week that everyone is expecting tonight. I think the 49ers will get redemption tonight. They have their home opener on Monday Night Football and are retiring [...]
Is Mike Singletary Losing Control of the Ship?
Master Motivator Mike Singletary has faced numerous issues in 2010 and it has me asking, does he have control over his players and coaches? I think Singletary still has control of the ship but the wheel is shaky. Here are the issues Singletary has faced: Firing of general manager Scot McCloughan: We still don’t know the reasons for McCloughan’s dismissal other than he was let go for “personal reasons.” Those reasons could include Singletary. That is just speculation but when you are not given a straight answer from the 49ers front office about the firing the 49er Faithful is allowed [...]
49ers Communication Issues Go Deeper
According to a recent Yahoo Sports story the communication problems the 49ers suffered on offense in their loss to the Seahawks goes much deeper than just last Sunday and all the way back to last season. The unnamed source, presumed to be an offensive player, said offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye has had problems even last season sending in the correct calls with them sometimes “garbled”. It is not that Raye does not know the plays but he often calls them from memory. Last season this was less of an issue because 49ers offensive assistant Jason Michael knew the playbook well [...]
5 Lessons Learned from Seahawks Loss
1. Offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye needs to be on the sidelines calling plays: Ask quarterback Alex Smith the reason for the communication breakdown in the loss against the Seahawks and he blames it on the plays not being called fast enough. Ask Mike Singletary or Raye and they will say there were issues with the radio in Smith’s helmet. Singletary agreed with Smith that Raye should be on the sidelines so we will see if they implement the plan on Monday night against the Saints. Regardless of who/what is to blame for the communication breakdowns it caused the 49ers to [...]
49ers Fail to Show Up in Loss Against Seahawks
For a team that is supposed to be the clear favorite to win the NFC West, they did not show it, or even show up for the 31-6 beating by the Seahawks. The 49ers started the game with an interception that resulted in a drive going to the one-yard line in Seahawks territory. That was the end of the positives for the 49ers who looked overmatched against the Seahawks on both sides of the football and seemed to be overwhelmed by the crowd noise. Yesterday’s game was supposed to be the 49ers statement game, they made a statement but one [...]
49ers Season Preview: Defense
Defensive line: LDT: Isaac Sopoaga NT: Aubrayo Franklin RDT: Justin Smith Reserves: Ray McDonald, Ricky Jean Francois, Demetric Evan. The 49ers defense ranked 15th overall in the NFL last season. The D ranked 21st in passing and sixth against the rush. The defensive line was at fault for being ranked in the bottom of the NFL against the pass because they could generate a rush without a blitzing linebacker or a corner/safety. This left the secondary exposed who also shared the blame for giving up big passing plays. The defense made up for their weak pass defense by being studs [...]
