Frank Gore Out Three Weeks with Injury

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Gameday, Injuries, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

The 49ers got dealt one more blow from the heartbreaking loss to the Vikings on Sunday.  Key offensive player Frank Gore will be out for three weeks with a right ankle strain.  The only shining light is the 49ers have the next two games at home and have their bye week in three weeks.  Rookie running back Glen Coffee will get his chance to show his skills as we will be the starter the next two weeks on an offensive that will run the football no matter who is in the backfield.  Coffee only gained 54 yards on 25 carries [...]

Brett Favre Breaks 49ers Hearts, Again

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

I hate Brett Favre.  He always seems to find a way to beat the Niners.  The 49ers were so close on a number fronts in pulling off the win and a 3-0 start to the season.  You can even say that it was a game of inches.  In the final seconds of the game with the 49ers up 24-20 Favre was pursued by DE Justin Smith who was an inch away from sacking Favre before he threw his heartbreaking TD pass to WR Greg Lewis; sack, end of game, Niners are 3-0.  With Safety Mark Roman covering Lewis if the [...]

Patrick Willis vs. Adrian Peterson

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, Injuries, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

This weekend’s matchup between the Niners and Viks will feature the best running back in the NFL in Adrian Peterson and one of the, if not the best linebackers in the NFL in Patrick Willis.  The only time Peterson has faced the 49ers was December 9, 2007 in which he rushed for only 3 yards on 14 carries, averaging 0.2 yards a carry. Willis was his normal self watching and stopping Peterson all day as he finished with 6 tackles and a fumble recovery.
“That’s a game that sticks in my mind,” Peterson said. “It’s the worst game of my career. [...]

Can Gore Repeat his Feat?

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

Or should it be “Can Gore Repeat his FEET?  Watching the 49ers game last Sunday against the Seahawks Frank Gore showed what type of player he can still become, a dominating running back that no matter how many men you stacked on the line he will find a way to gain yards and make you pay.  I am not saying that Gore has not been that type of player for the 49ers but with his declining numbers since he rushed for a 49er franchise record 1,695 yards in 2006 not many people were expecting anything higher than 1,100 yards rushing [...]

49ers File Tampering Charges against the Jets

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Breaking News, Fanzone/Tailgating, NFL, Rumors, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Trying to not talk about Michael Crabtree on this site lasted all but two weeks.  According to the New York Daily News the 49ers filed tampering charges against the Jets for contacting Crabtree about acquiring him in a trade.  This makes Deion Sanders’ statement last week more sensible that two teams are interested in trading for Crabtree and are willing to pay him the $40 million he wants even though the deadline to trade rookie players was on August 14, 2009.  The tampering allegations also gives credence to why Crabtree is asking for so much money and threatens to sit [...]

RECAP: Gore Runs Wild in 23-10 Win

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

Led by Frank Gore’s 207 rushing yards the 49ers are 2-0 after beating the NFC West rival Seahawks 23-10.  Gore had rushing touchdowns of 79 and 80 yards and Shaun Hill managed the game with perfection allowing the 49ers to hold onto the lead all game.  The 49ers offensive line stepped up compared to last week’s performance but even though Gore had a big day rushing the O-line still gave up four sacks in the game.  Right tackle Adam Synder allowed one of those sacks to go along with the three sacks he gave up last week which is a cause [...]

Vernon Davis Poised for Breakout Game

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

Last season when the 49ers played the Seahawks at home we were introduced to the Mike Singletary era, the Shaun Hill era and the Vernon Davis is done as a player on the 49ers era.  Well, I thought it was going to come to an end.  The 49er Faithful and every other NFL fan probably thought that too as Davis was banished from the field to the locker room which does not happen often, if at all, during an NFL game.  Sure, players have walked out on their own but to have a coach, who was coaching his first game [...]

The San Francisco 49ers Identity Crisis

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

During the Glory Years of the San Francisco 49ers (1982-1995) the 49er Faithful always had players that were the teams leader and face of the organization.  Those faces became legends in Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Steve Young and Bill Walsh.Today even teams that are consistently bad have at least one player that everyone can identify as the identity of the organization.   If you look at the 49ers this year the teams de facto face of the organization is head coach Mike Singletary.  At least that is what the 49ers marketing team is telling us.  Every advertisements that I have [...]

RECAP: 49ers beat Cardinals 20-16

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: 49ers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

This is the first time since the Niners win I have been able to post an update.  Life gets in the way sometimes…

The 49ers defeated the reigning NFC champion Cardinals on Sunday 20-16.  While it wasn’t the greatest of games played by the Niners in recent years, in the end it was a win.  There were many positives: Shaun Hill managed the game effectively and he led the team on what turned out to be the game-winning drive with over seven minutes to play in the fourth quarter;  The 49ers D showed that they are capable of sacking the [...]

49ers 2009 Season Preview: Secondary, Special Teams Edition

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

Secondary:
The 49ers secondary were beat deep down the field many times last year and they will have to improve on their lack of interceptions.  If the defensive backs can get help from the D-linemen by pressuring the quarterback more often an increase in broken up passes and interceptions will happen while getting beat on a long pass will decrease.
CB Nate Clements:  The durable veteran is entering his third season with the Niners and Clements great tackling skills and his ability to match up against the best receivers in the NFL makes the 49ers secondary respectable.  But Clements is only one [...]
