The 49ers' brass will face plenty of decisions leading up to final roster cuts. The first preseason game might have provided some insight into how those moves might shake out.

The preseason games appear like they will be showcases for Josh Dobbs and Brandon Allen to prove themselves to be the best choice to back up Brock Purdy. The 49ers' entrenched starter isn't likely to play much, if at all, so it'll all come down to which of the veteran options shows more to head coach Kyle Shanahan.

I tend to think Dobbs wins out in the end, even if there wasn't much to separate the two on Saturday. Allen started the game and ended his time 7-of-13 for 98 yards, while Dobbs finished the contest 14-of-20 for 146 yards, one interception, and a rushing touchdown.

But as I mentioned before training camp, I believe Dobbs' superior athleticism and intelligence will win the day, with the man they call the Passtronaut winning the job.
