San Francisco is fresh off of a bye week, and the team is looking to advance to another NFC title game in the Kyle Shanahan era. The NFC is wide open for the taking with the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles losing on Wild Card Weekend.
Green Bay upset Dallas – in Dallas – with a massive offensive performance led by quarterback Jordan Love. However, it’s going to be tough to duplicate that showing against the San Francisco defense.
The total in this game is at 50.5 points, which is pretty high for a playoff matchup, but both of these offenses have been lethal down the stretch of the season. Love has thrown for 21 touchdowns and just one interception since Nov. 19.
Meanwhile, the 49ers rank No. 2 in the NFL in scoring offense this season (28.9 points per game), passing the Miami Dolphins after their dud of a performance in the wild card round last week.
Using the latest odds for this matchup, I’m going to attempt to predict the final score of this game – something that is not easy to do. But, if you get this right, you can come away a big winner in the betting market.
Let’s dive into this divisional round matchup:
Packers vs. 49ers odds, spread and total
49ers final score prediction
The 49ers need to win this game by 10 or more points to cover the 9.5-point spread on Saturday, but I think they’re built to do so.
Green Bay’s defense still gave up over 30 points in the win over Dallas last week, and the team has really taken a step back in that regard over the final months of the season.
The Packers rank 20th in the NFL in yards per play allowed this season, a huge difference when you compare them to San Fran (No. 9 in opponent yards per play this season).
With the 49ers starters playing, the team finished the 2023 regular season with seven wins by double digits in their last nine games. The team lost the two other games, but one of those matchups (Week 18) the team did not play most of its starters.
There is a cause for concern that San Francisco was just 3-5 against the spread as a home favorite, but I’m going to look past that record here and focus on this head-to-head matchup.
Green Bay may be able to put up points, but the team hasn’t been dropping 30 every night. Let’s not forget that it scored just 17 points in Week 18 against the Chicago Bears, 20 points in Week 15 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and 22 points in Week 14 against the New York Giants.
The upset over Dallas was great, but I’ll sell high on Green Bay and back the 49er to win this one easily.
Final score prediction: 49ers 31, Packers 20
