5 most exciting matchups 49ers could open with in Week 1

While not quite as extreme as the rivalry between their rivalry with the Cowboys, the Niners' rivalry with the Green Bay Packers is still pretty heated.
And, not unlike the comeback win over the Lions in the NFC Championship game, San Francisco also had to engineer another comeback at home over the Packers the week prior in the divisional round, which made it five postseason victories in a row over Green Bay.
After plenty of heartbreaking playoff losses to the Packers in the late 1990s, this most recent string of success is notably nice.
Aside from watching whether or not the 49ers can again stave off the maturation of Packers quarterback Jordan Love one more time, there's another good reason why getting this game out of the way early in 2024 would be ideal.
The weather.
Playing at Lambeau Field in November or December isn't necessarily preferable, especially for a warm-weather squad like the Niners.
Getting that road trip out of the way in September is far more preferable.
