The San Francisco 49ers were arguably the best team in the NFL all the way until overtime at the Super Bowl when Patrick Mahomes did Patrick Mahomes things and snatched victory from the grasp of the 49ers.

Still, their season was impressive enough that San Francisco has been immediately been set as the Super Bowl favorites next season. Not only that, but they have some contenders to win next year's NFL MVP. Brock Purdy is near the top of the odds list but Christian McCaffrey is in the conversation as well.

McCaffrey has an MVP-esque campaign in 2023 and finished third in MVP voting and was also named the Offensive Player of the Year.

A non-quarterback hasn't been named NFL MVP since Adrian Peterson did it back in 2012. CMC came close last year, but can he finally break that streak in 2024? Let's take a look at his betting odds to do exactly that.

Christian McCaffrey set as MVP long shot

Despite finishing third in MVP voting last season, oddsmakers have little faith he can finally break the trend of quarterbacks winning the award in 2024. His odds are set at +10000, meaning if you were to bet $100 on him to win MVP, you'd win a profit of $10,000 if he's able to achieve the feat.

There are two other non quarterbacks listed with the same odds. Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings and Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins are also set at 100/1 to win the award.

McCaffrey led the NFL in rushing yards last season with 1,459. He also added one 564 receiving yards on 67 receptions. As a whole, he found the end zone 21 times, 14 on the ground and another seven through the air.

For a running back to win the award, he would likely have to have a record-breaking season.

McCaffrey also has the same issue that other members of the 49ers' offense has. The team almost has too many weapons for one single person to be singled out as the "MVP". Can you give it to CMC when Brock Purdy also plays lights out? Does Purdy deserve to be MVP when he has weapons like McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel? It's an argument that followed the 49ers all season when people talked about who deserved to win NFL MVP.

No matter what you think, there's a strong argument to be made that McCaffrey is worth a bet at 100/1 to win the award in the 2024 season.
