Chiefs vs. 49ers key players to watch

Kansas City Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes: Obviously, the Chiefs' most key and important player is Patrick Mahomes. This team goes as far as he takes them and he's been near flawless in the postseason throughout his career. If he can lead them to another championship, he's on pace to match Tom Brady's career. This is a big one for the Chiefs quarterback.

San Francisco 49ers

Christian McCaffrey: The key to victory for the 49ers in this game is their running back, Christian McCaffrey, who's averaging 5.1 yards per carry in the playoffs while adding in four touchdowns in two games. The weakness of the Chiefs' defense is their run defense, which means McCaffrey has to have a big day. If he doesn't, the 49ers are going to be in trouble if they're forced to throw the ball.

Chiefs vs. 49ers prediction and pick

It's always hard to bet against Patrick Mahomes, but we have to remember there are 10 other starters on offense and 11 starters on defense. For the majority of the season, the 49ers were looked at as a top two team in the league. Few people would have claimed the Chiefs were the better team.

The 49ers lead the NFL in Net Yards per Play, along with almost every single offensive metric you can find, including EPA and success rate.

San Francisco is also built to beat a team like Kansas City. The Chiefs biggest weakness is their inability to stop the run and the 49ers enter the game with the best rushing attack the league has to offer. As long as they do what the Ravens didn't do, and stick to running the football, they're going to be able to move the ball against this Chiefs defense.

The 49ers are the better team and we should be jumping at the chance to back them as just small favorites on Super Bowl Sunday.
