49ers have absolutely owned this NFC team over their franchise history

Believe it or not, the 49ers have had some of their best success over the years against the Saints.

If you had to pick a team the 49ers have completely dominated over the years, you probably wouldn't pick this squad.

The San Francisco 49ers have had some great back-and-forth battles against their top rivals over the years. For much of the 1990s, the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers were the bane of Niners fans' existence, but recently, San Francisco has reversed the trend and has ended both Dallas and Green Bay in the playoffs on multiple occasions.

Thank you for that.

Interestingly enough, though, both the Packers and Cowboys still hold the all-time series record against the 49ers, 24-18 and 18-17-1, respectively, in favor of the bad guys.

So, no. The Niners haven't exactly dominated either of those two teams, although they've enjoyed better success in recent years.

But there has to be a team San Francisco has both played a lot and seemingly dominated in a major way, though, right?

Right?

Yes, there is.

49ers have dominated the Saints over the year, boast massive win-loss percentage over New Orleans

If anyone is counting, the 49ers' best winning percentage over the rest of the NFL comes against the Houston Texans, with the Niners going 4-1 in five games.

No one counts five games. That's boring.

Instead, let's find one of those longstanding team-versus-team series. With at least 40 games played. Sound good?

Going by that criteria, San Francisco has traditionally owned the New Orleans Saints. Like, in a big way.

Going back to their first contest against each other in 1967, a 27-13 win for the 49ers, the red and gold have pulled off a commanding 50-27-2 record against New Orleans over the years for a winning percentage of 64.6.

That's nearly a 2-to-1 win/loss ratio for the Niners, who actually got to square off frequently against NOLA until a divisional realignment in 2002 that removed the Saints from San Francisco's division, the NFC West.

The only other teams the 49ers have played more than New Orleans are the Los Angeles Rams (146 games) and the Atlanta Falcons (80 games), but the Niners' winning percentage against those two squads is just 55.2 and 59.1, respectively.

It's hard to compete against that whopping 64.6 win percentage against the Saints, even though the two teams have alternated wins and losses dating back to the start of the 2012 regular season.
