Loser: 49ers TE Ross Dwelley

Poor tight end Ross Dwelley.

Each year, despite San Francisco regularly re-signing him, it appears as if Dwelley is a long shot to make the 53-man roster. After all, the 49ers’ quest to add a dynamic No. 2 tight end behind George Kittle is ongoing.

Could 2023 be the year in which Dwelley finally fails to make the cut after surviving as a depth option for so long?

It’ll be tough.

The Niners drafted not one but two tight ends in an awfully deep class. First, coming in from Round 3, Alabama’s Cameron Latu. Then, in Round 7, San Francisco added the versatile Brayden Willis out of Oklahoma.

While San Francisco might not keep both of those two rookie additions, either one of them could ultimately push Dwelley off the roster.
