player. 806. . Cornerback. Nittany Lions . Joey Porter Jr . 16

On the clock: Pick No. 16: Washington Commanders – Joey Porter Jr, Cornerback, Penn State

Mock Draft 1.0: Christian Gonzalez, Cornerback, Oregon
Mock Draft 2.0: Joey Porter Jr., Cornerback, Penn State

Cornerback is an obvious need for the Washington Commanders as their pass defense was practically non-existent for a lot of 2022. Joey Porter Jr is the last of the consensus top three cornerbacks on the board and would be an instant upgrade.

Washington met with Porter during the Combine so there’s obvious interest. Porter is less versatile than some might like as he’s not able to play in the slot, but he has big upside as a potential shutdown cornerback.

Porter has the prototypical size and speed you want for a top corner, measuring in at 6-foot-2 and 193 pounds while running a 4.46 40-yard time at the NFL Combine.

Porter didn’t record an interception in 2022 but he did have 11 passes defended for the Nittany Lions. While he doesn’t have the takeaways that teams would like to see from a top-corner prospect, his ability to be in the right place to deflect those passes show he can put himself in the right place.
