49ers NFL Draft sleeper target No. 7: WR Trey Palmer, Nebraska

A former LSU wide receiver who could find a niche role with San Francisco is Nebraska’s Trey Palmer.

Palmer didn’t get to showcase his talents with the Tigers and opted to head out west to the Big Ten instead, putting together a 1,000-yard season in his new environment.

What makes Palmer intriguing is his speed. He ran a 4.33 40-yard time at the NFL Scouting Combine, and Kyle Shanahan has long prioritized both speed and route-running ability into his wide receiver room.

A year ago, the 49ers tried to make it work with former SMU speedster Danny Gray, who unfortunately became an afterthought during the regular season.

Palmer, who offers more than Gray did coming out of college, could finally fit that bill as a deep-field threat and as a Round 5 or 6 sleeper grab.
