No. 1: Danny Gray disappeared from 49ers’ offensive game plan in 2022

Just like Samuel Womack, wide receiver Danny Gray had some impressive moments during his initial preseason campaign, including that impressive deep touchdown pass from quarterback Trey Lance.

Also like Womack, Gray essentially disappeared from the depth chart over the course of the regular season.

To an even more extreme extent.

Gray was on the field for a mere 87 offensive snaps and recorded only one reception for 10 yards on seven targets.

Yes, Gray is fast and was intended to be that perfect field-stretching complement to an otherwise stacked Niners wide receiver room. However, the general consensus and opinion of many suggested that Gray wasn’t adequate as a blocker and lacked the other skills, outside of his speed, to make any sort of serious regular-season impact.

If that continues to be the case, San Francisco already has enough receiving options to make Gray a non-factor again in 2023.
