No. 2: 49ers Wide Receiver Ray-Ray McCloud

Next up on this list of three players the 49ers should consider trading is another wide receiver, this time, veteran Ray-Ray McCloud.

The Niners were McCloud’s fourth NFL team after being drafted in 2018. He was brought in to be mostly a special teamer and return man, but over the course of the season, proved his speed could be an asset in Kyle Shanahan’s offense.

McCloud proved this past year that he could be a legitimate offensive threat in the right system, along with being a valuable special teamer.

Teams value special teams. and although he won’t fetch nearly as much as Aiyuk, there are plenty of NFL GMs that would be willing to move some pieces for a veteran presence on the special teams unit.

Additionally. the Niners took Danny Gray, another speedy receiver, in the 2022 draft. Although Gray didn’t impress on the stat sheet his rookie year, he is in a position to make a big second-year leap. The coaching staff may well think a second-year Gray can fill the role McCloud filled for this team in 2022.

If that is the case, the 49ers should absolutely consider trading McCloud to save around $1.2 Million in cap space for 2023, plus a late-round draft pick or two in return.
