Crazy 49ers trade No. 1: Nick Bosa

Yes, crazy. And oh-so unlikely from every front.

That said, there are scenarios where trading All-Pro EDGE Nick Bosa, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, actually makes sense.

First, let’s look at the money. Bosa is poised to earn an average annual value of at least $30 million, and it wouldn’t be shocking if he wholly resets the market for top defensive players at around $35 million per year.

While San Francisco is publicly saying it’ll pay that, remember, it also wanted DeForest Buckner to be in a 49ers uniform for a long time, too. Look what happened there when money got in the way.

Imagine that money invested in an elite offensive line. Case in point, the Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs had a merely OK defense throughout the course of 2022 but ultimately took home yet another Lombardi Trophy with elite quarterbacking and a fully upgraded O-line.

Defense matters today, but it doesn’t matter as much as offense.

Plus, above all else, just imagine the king’s ransom the Niners could get from a would-be Bosa trade.

Forget two first-round picks. San Francisco would cash in on so much more than that.

Will it happen? No. But it’d make some sense if it did.
