2023 NFL Draft, Pick No. 15: Green Bay Packers – Brian Branch, Safety, Alabama

The Aaron Rodgers saga aside, the Green Bay Packers have to do something desperately about the safety position. Darnell Savage has been a bust, while Adrian Amos had a poor year and is out of contract anyway.

Brian Branch is one of the more versatile prospects in the draft this season, being able to play either safety position, the nickel role or even as a linebacker. Branch recorded 90 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions and seven passes while playing both as a safety and nickel back.

Branch is a playmaker who’s got some incredible intelligence. He uses his eyes to make plays, diagnosing what happens before using his athleticism and ball skills to impact the play. He’s also got some chops as a blitzer, recording three sacks for the season.

As an athlete, Branch is amazing. He can run with receivers or target the ball-carrier. A proven leader at Alabama, Branch knows what it takes for the next level.

An excellent tackler, teams can also trust Branch to stack the box if they need to. He rarely misses his tackle, wrapping up ball carriers with good technique. When you add it all up, you have a potentially special safety for the next level.

Teams might be a bit down on Branch because he might be one of those tweener-type players who doesn’t have a natural fit on the field.

I believe safety is his best fit, however, given his skill set.
