49ers top contract No. 3: Linebacker Fred Warner

2023 Cap Hit: $18.525 million (zero guaranteed)

There are those who look at NFL contracts and stress the only dollar amount that matters is what’s guaranteed.

If that’s the case, All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner’s contract has to be the outlier (or a massive concern).

Warner carries precisely zero in guaranteed money year after year from 2023 through the deal’s expiration in 2026. In 2022, his guaranteed amount was a mere $1.58 million, reinforcing the idea that the Niners’ front office can be awfully hesitant about giving out guaranteed cash.

Either way, Warner can still make a good amount of change with a base salary of just under $13 million and per-game bonuses of $500,000.

Based on his play, he’s worth it and then some.
