49ers free-agent No. 4: Long-snapper Taybor Pepper

OK, so specialists shouldn’t move the needle too much when it comes to look at pending free agents.

However, let’s rewind back to that road game against the New York Giants back early in 2020 when then-49ers long-snapper Kyle Nelson had all kinds of trouble delivering the ball to his special teams battery mates.

The result? Nelson was ousted within a week.

Since that point, the Niners have had nothing but consistency with their current long-snapper, Taybor Pepper, and that has helped keep San Francisco’s special teams unit on the ascent when it comes to punts, field-goal tries and extra points.

Asking anyone on any special teams unit, the lone job of a long-snapper is to be unnoticed and consistent in that regard.

Pepper has done that exceptionally well since joining the fray in the middle of that 2020 season.
