NFC Championship advantage No. 4: Eagles have a better pass rush than 49ers

It’s weird to think that the Niners have an inferior defensive line and pass rush than another team on this stage after spending so much capital reinforcing it.

This isn’t to say San Francisco’s D-line and pass rush is bad or even just average. It’s still elite, especially with Pro Bowl EDGE Nick Bosa leading the way with 18.5 sacks. And the 49ers boasted 44 during the regular season, too, meaning that pressuring Jalen Hurts won’t be a lofty goal despite Philly having the better offensive line.

However, when it comes to generating a pass rush, Philadelphia has a clear edge here as well.

For the Niners, it’s Bosa and not much more behind him. For Philly, four defenders notched at least 10 sacks this season en route to the Eagles’ NFL-best 70:

  • Haason Reddick: 16
  • Brandon Graham: 11
  • Josh Sweat: 11
  • Javon Hargrave: 11

San Francisco’s No. 2 sack specialist is EDGE Samson Ebukam with only five quarterback takedowns.

If the 49ers are forced to rely on the pass game, things could get awfully challenging trying to block those four Philly pass-rushers.

Next. 49ers must correct these things to beat Eagles in NFC Championship game. dark
