The Cowboys and 49ers meet for the second straight postseason after each team advanced out of Wild Card weekend unscathed with double digit victories.

Now, the 49ers host the Cowboys with a spot in the NFC Championship on the line. San Francisco had a slow start against the Seahawks, trailing by one at half, but Brock Purdy and the offense picked it up in the second half en route to a 41-23 win.

Last season, San Francisco went into Dallas and got a thrilling win, will the Cowboys flip the script on Sunday night?

Let’s check out the odds:

Cowboys vs. 49ers odds, spread and total

  • Mike McCarthy is 12-7-1 ATS as a head coach in the postseason

Cowboys vs. 49ers prediction and pick

Dallas showed little issue disposing of the Buccaneers on Monday night, but there is still some concern about the defense dating back to the end of the regular season and now traveling to Santa Clara on short rest. The team has struggled against the pass as the season has continued, ranking in the bottom half of the league in EPA per dropback in the second half of the season.

I believe the Niners can use their deep receiving corps to open up the run game for the likes of Christian McCaffrey against the strength of the Dallas defense, the run D. The Cowboys are a top five rush defense, but if Purdy causes them to worry about the pass game and the likes of Deebo Samuel and George Kittle running down field, than the Niners run game should take over.

On the other side, the Seahawks were able to have success against San Francisco through the first three quarters of their Wild Card matchup against the Niners as D.K. Metcalf hauled in 10 catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns. I expect the Cowboys to try and take the top off the Niners secondary as well with Ceedee Lamb and tight end Dalton Shultz underneath. Even with Dak Prescott in and out of the lineup this season and (still) tying the lead for interceptions, the Cowboys were top 10 in EPA per dropback.

Both offenses have explosive tendencies, and I like the over in the divisional round finale.
