Dud: The 49ers first-half red zone offense

OK, I admit it, this was tough. Because there was very little wrong with San Francisco’s performance throughout the entire game. However, if we’re going to split hairs and find a flaw, it may as well be the red zone offense for the first two quarters.

Each time Brock Purdy marched his team down the field and made it to the red zone, the drive ended with a Robbie Gould field goal.

I know what you’re thinking. “At least they scored some points!” But in the playoffs every missed opportunity is a chance for your opponent to expose you. And with this rivalry, that’s what Seattle has done for years. The Legion of Boom exposed the offense and Russell Wilson exploited the defense.

Granted, the Seahawks are not the same team and the roles seem to have switched, respectively. But the stigma remains and probably will for a long time. Seattle dominated San Francisco for years and the sting is still there.

As the playoffs continue to unfold, the 49ers are going to have to capitalize on every opportunity available. Lucky for them, their second half effort was the complete opposite of their first half performance.

Moving forward, consistency is key. If the franchise wants to win it all, they’ve got to bring that same intensity for a full sixty minutes.
