No. 1: 49ers EDGE Nick Bosa

Perhaps defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans took some note of the need to do this: spelling his best defensive player, EDGE Nick Bosa.

Bosa, who now leads the NFL in sacks with 15.5, could theoretically challenge the single-season record for that mark. Yet that would likely have to involve him playing in the remaining three games, and it’s a fair question to wonder whether it’d be smarter for Ryans and the 49ers to give Bosa a rest while relying more on the defensive line’s depth.

That depth proved valuable against the Seahawks, and it’d also be wise to give rookie EDGE Drake Jackson an increased look over the final three bouts while Bosa is limited.

Plus, Bosa has already dealt with hamstring injuries this season, and the last thing the Niners need is to have him aggravate that again.

Instead of targeting a single-season sack lead, Bosa should be put on a snap count in order to save him for the postseason where he’ll be needed most.
