No. 1: 49ers running back Tyrion Davis-Price

Arguably the 49ers’ most questionable selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, running back Tyrion Davis-Price flashed a few moments of intrigue, both during the preseason and even in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks before he suffered a high-ankle sprain that knocked him out of action between Weeks 3 through 5.

And Davis-Price has been only a modest factor since, garnering a mere 37 yards on 16 carries.

Of course, the Niners’ running back room has changed a lot since the beginning of the year. There’s the big-name pickup, All-Pro Christian McCaffrey, who’s easily the RB1 of the group. And he’ll be joined by second-year running back Elijah Mitchell, who is poised to return off injured reserve after spraining his MCL in Week 1.

Yet San Francisco cleared some space by trading running back Jeff Wilson Jr. away to the Miami Dolphins before the trade deadline on Nov. 1.

If there was any rusher the tough, physical Davis-Price would have emulated on the 49ers roster, it would have been Wilson.

Those short-yardage, tough-situation opportunities should go Davis-Price’s way when possible now that he’s back and healthy from his ankle injury.
