49ers 1st-half offensive grades: Wide receiver

Wide Receiver. San Francisco 49ers. . B-.

It’s somewhat hard to draw a decisive conclusion about the 49ers’ wide receiver room halfway through the 2022 season.

For starters, it’d be hard for All-Pro Deebo Samuel to back up his 1,770 all-purpose yard campaign from a year ago, especially knowing now that opposing teams are keying in on him, defensively, in an attempt to limit him from being the same kind of X-factor.

To date, over seven games played, Samuel has a respectable 32 catches for 387 yards and two touchdowns, and he’s added 138 more yards on 24 touches on the ground with another touchdown, albeit those 525 net yards have included two fumbles.

Certainly respectable stats, but those aren’t anything close to All-Pro numbers.

Samuel’s counterpart, Brandon Aiyuk, has enjoyed a surge of a year, though, and he is benefiting from the extra attention on Samuel, currently leading the Niners offense with 483 receiving yards on 38 receptions with four touchdowns.

It’s weird to think Aiyuk is San Francisco’s No. 1 wideout, but according to the stats, he is.

The 49ers are yet to generate much production from their depth receivers, but this one-two punch has nevertheless been solid enough.
