49ers vs. Rams matchup No. 1: Christian McCaffrey vs. Los Angeles’ front seven

The Niners were able to feature their newly acquired All-Pro running back, Christian McCaffrey, in limited duties against the Chiefs last week. But, now armed with a greater knowledge of Kyle Shanahan’s offense, McCaffrey should be an even bigger X-factor in Week 8 versus Los Angeles.

McCaffrey does carry a major key to unlock the majority of San Francisco’s offensive struggles as of late. An elusive rusher, McCaffrey has the prowess to execute those sizable gains between the tackles, and he’s equally as potent getting to the outside, too.

Plus, as a pass-catching option, McCaffrey is one of the better route-runners from the backfield.

Both of these aspects should play a vital role in assisting Jimmy Garoppolo and the rest of the 49ers’ offensive contributors, opening up play action and also allowing the remaining skill players an easier time getting open.

A week before being traded to the Niners, McCaffrey had 69 yards rushing on 13 attempts against Los Angeles, and he also added 89 yards on seven catches, too, and San Francisco would love to have him put forth a similar effort against the Rams defense this weekend.

The 49ers and Rams kick off on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 4:25 p.m. ET from SoFI Stadium.
