Penalties still negatively impacting 49ers

The 49ers had a terrible game in terms of penalties in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears in which they committed 12 penalties for 99 yards in that game. That turned out to be their downfall during that game.

However, in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks, the Niners showed marked improvements. They were extremely disciplined and only committed one penalty for 26 yards.

The next few games weren’t great as far as penalties, but they never ceded more than 50 yards on penalties in any one game.

In Week 7, San Francisco again looked highly undisciplined, committing back-breaking penalties that caused first-down conversions to be nullified and field-goal attempts to become punts due to loss of yards.

The 49ers committed 10 penalties for 80 yards against the Chiefs. Now, the Chiefs already were going to be a tough opponent even if things were all going right, but giving up 80 yards in penalties was always going to be extremely detrimental no matter the opponent.

If the Niners hope to beat the Los Angeles Rams in Week 8, they will need to limit penalties.
