Question No. 2: Is Jimmy Garoppolo still classified as ‘a winner?’

Ah, yes. An everlasting argument in favor of Jimmy Garoppolo over the years: “All he does is win.”

Well, that might have been the case from 2017 through 2020 when he was healthy and on the field. Perhaps a portion of 2021, too.

However, as 49ers Webzone’s Al Sacco pointed out, the trend of Garoppolo being a “pure winner” is beginning to reverse in the opposite direction, and Jimmy G’s play has effectively taken a turn in the wrong direction, too:

While Garoppolo’s 2019 campaign was nothing of a Pro Bowl-caliber effort, he nevertheless earned some credit by finishing the year with a league-best four fourth-quarter comebacks, and Week 3 could have served as his first after reclaiming the starting job the week prior.

Instead, Garoppolo’s late interception proved to be a massive blow from which the Niners couldn’t recover.

Right now, the current edition of Garoppolo is even a far cry from what he put forth during San Francisco’s Super Bowl run three seasons ago.
