49ers stud vs. Broncos: DeMeco Ryans

Three weeks into 2022 is proving once again that defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans will be a head coach somewhere next season.

After a mostly positive showing in Week 1’s loss to the Chicago Bears, followed by a defensive shutout against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2, Ryans’ side of the ball held the Broncos to a mere nine points on Sunday night.

Considering the success quarterback Russell Wilson has had against the 49ers over the last 10-plus years, that’s quite a feat.

Especially when the Niners held Denver to a mere 267 total yards and 3.7 yards per play.

Through three weeks, not including Week 3’s Monday Night Football bout, San Francisco’s defense now ranks best in the NFL with an average of just 3.9 yards allowed per play.

Ryans has the bonus of a loaded defense at all three levels, yes, but he’s also making the most of his players on that side of the ball, too, which was capped off by the 49ers adding four sacks on Wilson in what should have been a winning effort.

The Niners defense does not bear responsibility for the loss.
