Positive No. 2: Talanoa Hufanga’s ascent continues

There weren’t too many bright spots from the Niners’ Week 1 loss to Chicago, but second-year safety Talanoa Hufanga was certainly one of the few.

And that trend continued in Week 2 against Seattle where Hufanga finished the game with six tackles, including one for a loss, and also tipped a pass from Geno Smith that was intercepted by fellow safety Tashon Gipson for one of the three defensive takeaways San Francisco had during the game:

That was one of two deflected passes Hufanga had during the game.

Entering the year, Hufanga’s lack of athleticism and straight-line speed were considered potential liabilities, yet his playmaking skills have certainly shone in the right way over two games thus far.

As long as Hufanga keeps making these kinds of impacts, the 49ers shouldn’t have too many concerns about their secondary over the rest of the season.
