49ers versus Chicago: 10 Bears that can help fuel an upset
Though it may not seem like it, the Bears expect to field a few playmakers on offense.
There was a lot of intrigue surrounding the Bears as they entered the most recent offseason. They had both draft capital and money to spend, and for some reason, they elected to blow up their roster.
During the most recent NFL Draft, they added what could be a valuable weapon at wide receiver, Velus Jones. They also landed the guy that they hope protects Justin Field’s blindside for years to come.
Braxton Jones, left tackle
Welcome to the NFL Braxton Jones! Your first regular-season assignment is trying to keep Nick Bosa off of Justin Fields. If you’re successful, it could be a good day for Chicago’s quarterback. If you aren’t, everyone will know about it.
Cole Kmet, tight end
Cole Kmet was Chicago’s second-leading receiver at the close of the most recent NFL season as he evolved into a nice security blanket for Fields. The questions now are about whether or not he can make huge leaps in year three.
David Montgomery, running back
Watching David Montgomery sit on the Bears’ offense can feel like watching someone put a new paint job on a broken-down automobile. He’s one of the best players Chicago has on the offensive side of the ball, so you can best believe 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans will devise a scheme to limit his production.
Darnell Mooney, wide receiver
As mentioned earlier, the Bears have a nice lump of coal that they hope becomes a diamond in the form of Velus jones, but they also have an already-proven weapon in Darnell Mooney. He led all Bears receivers in 2021 in receptions (81), receiving yards (1,055), and receiving touchdowns (four). He’ll be a valuable piece in Chicago’s offense this year as well.
