No. 4 49ers player who shined vs. Vikings: Jordan Mason

There might not be a lot of room for an undrafted rookie running back on the Niners’ 53-man roster.

But Kyle Shanahan could have an awfully difficult time risking former Georgia Tech runner Jordan Mason not being named to the regular-season group, particularly if another team watched his nine-carry, 57-yard rushing performance versus Minnesota.

And there were a number of runs where Mason showed off both his strength and downhill abilities, including this particular 17-yard gain:

A week after impressing against the Vikings, Mason is making a case for himself to be named to the 53-man roster.

Sure, it won’t be easy. Not with fellow running backs like Elijah Mitchell, Jeff Wilson Jr., JaMycal Hasty, Tyrion Davis-Price and Trey Sermon all in the way and vying for key roles. And one has to take into account that Mason’s performances have been against third- and fourth-string players during both preseason bouts.

Still, Mason has looked more than just promising in each of those outings, and he’ll likely earn some seriously strong consideration to hang around into the regular season.
