49ers roster bubble after beating Packers: Running back

Lock: Tyrion Davis-Price*, Kyle Juszczyk, Elijah Mitchell

Strong bubble: JaMycal Hasty, Trey Sermon, Jeff Wilson Jr.

Weak bubble: Jordan Mason*

Long shot: Josh Hokit

A few notable takeaways from the 49ers’ ground efforts against the Packers.

For starters, watching rookie Tyrion Davis-Price get 10 carries was interesting, yet he only managed 36 yards despite some hard running right at defenders. Granted, the Niners’ collective run-blocking effort wasn’t great, and that not only limited Davis-Price but another third-round draft pick, second-year man Trey Sermon, too, who had just 11 yards on six carries.

Both players showed some prowess in what’s becoming more of a power-run scheme, but arguably the biggest winner from Friday night out of this bunch was third-year tailback JaMycal Hasty, who despite a gaffe on a kickoff he knocked out of bounds at the 5-yard line still managed to net 47 all-purpose yards on six touches.

Good for him, as he entered the preseason arguably the least favorite halfback to make the 53-man roster.

Undrafted rookie Jordan Mason, who had 30 yards on six carries late in the game against the deepest of depth-chart Packers players, could shake things up.

Right now, though, Mason is probably destined for the practice squad, as is fullback Josh Hokit, both of whom probably serve as emergency call-up options.
