49ers roster bubble watch in the wake of preseason win vs. Packers

49ers roster bubble after beating Packers: Cornerback
Lock: Emmanuel Moseley, Charvarius Ward, Samuel Womack III*
Strong bubble: Darqueze Dennard, Deommodore Lenoir
Weak bubble: Tariq Castro-Fields*, Ka’dar Hollman, Dontae Johnson, Ambry Thomas, Jason Verrett
Long shot: Qwuantrezz Knight*
We can point out four key takeaways with regards to the cornerback room and in light of veterans Charvarius Ward, Emmanuel Moseley and Jason Verrett all absent because of injuries.
Verrett, in particular, seems to be a stronger candidate to start the regular season on the physically unable-to-perform list, but having him as a midseason reinforcement might be a smart play in the wake of his 2021 ACL tear.
With that takeaway on the books, the next one is the biggest: rookie Samuel Womack.
Womack’s two-interception night, including this physical strip-pick on Romeo Doubs, probably just earned the fifth-round NFL Draft pick the starting nickel job, and it certainly cemented his roster status if there were any doubts:

That might not fully push veteran corner Darqueze Dennard off the roster, but it certainly doesn’t assist his chances.
Second-year pro Ambry Thomas’ chances aren’t particularly good either, following a substandard training camp and then a lackluster preseason effort against Green Bay where he was flagged for illegal contact and surrendered a 12-yard catch on his only target while also missing a tackle.
Thomas has been leapfrogged by fellow 2021 rookie Deommodore Lenoir over the last few weeks.
Meanwhile, veteran defensive back Dontae Johnson suffered a ribs injury late in the game and will miss some time, endangering his chances of making the 53-man roster.
