49ers stud vs. Packers: CB Samuel Womack

There were a few candidates who could have been named the final stud from Friday night, including Danny Gray and fellow rookie, EDGE Drake Jackson, whose shoulder injury suffered in the second quarter is reportedly minor.

Good news there, but there’s an obvious choice for the No. 1 stud, rookie cornerback Samuel Womack.

Womack was rewarded with an interception after officials originally ruled a contested catch in the favor of Romeo Doubs. Upon a challenge from head coach Kyle Shanahan, however, those officials ruled Womack as having stripped the ball away from Doubts.

It was on the first of two picks the former Toledo defensive back recorded that evening, as he subsequently cut the angle in front of a Jordan Love pass:

Bad throw from Love, perhaps. But excellent positioning from Womack, and that usually leads to favorable opportunities.

Womack took advantage of it there.

The rookie is currently battling for a starting nickel cornerback job this season, and plays like the ones he made on Friday against Green Bay should go a long way towards him actually earning that nod.

Perhaps San Francisco has yet another late-round draft gem after grabbing Womack in Round 5 this year.
