49ers dud vs. Packers: OL Justin Skule

In fairness to veteran offensive lineman Justin Skule, who like Tarvarius Moore, missed all of 2021 with a serious injury, coming back for his first in-game action was likely going to lead to some rusty moments.

Narrator: “It did.”

Skule was not impressive during the game, giving up two sacks and completely whiffing on Packers linebacker Tipa Galeai.

It wasn’t a good look, as Skule appeared as if gaffed by guessing an outside rush, while Galeai simply cut back to the inside and had a clear path to sack Trey Lance.

The Niners have spent considerable effort trying to reinforce their offensive line depth during the last two offseasons, bringing in rookies Spencer Burford and Nick Zakelj via the draft this year, then signing undrafted free agents Jason Poe and Dohnovan West.

Poe and Burford stood out, while returning veterans Jaylon Moore and Colton McKivitz outshined Skule, who now likely finds himself deeper on the roster bubble.
