49ers dud vs. Packers: S Tarvarius Moore

The 49ers may play a lot of three-safety looks this season with Jimmie Ward manning his typical free safety role, plus second-year pro Talanoa Hufanga in a strong safety setting in the wake of Jaquiski Tartt signing with the Philadelphia Eagles during the offseason.

But veteran defensive back Tarvarius Moore is expected to occupy a big-nickel role, which he’s done to a great extent over his career to date.

However, after suffering a torn Achilles during the offseason a year ago and missing all of 2021 as a result, his efforts versus Green Bay weren’t exactly desirable.

Moore was in coverage on a Niners blitz when Packers quarterback Jordan Love found wide receiver Romeo Doubs, who completely blew by San Francisco’s safety around, making Moore look awfully bad in the process:

Moore didn’t make up for it later in the game, although he’s still likely safe on the roster because of his versatility and speed.

Hopefully, at least based on this one play, he’s just a little rusty after not being in a game situation since 2020.
