Key question No. 1 Can 49ers secondary survive a real game setting?

With cornerbacks Charvarius Ward and Emmanuel Moseley both nursing injuries, the 49ers secondary has already been tested. Luckily, neither injury is serious enough to warrant real concern.

That said, it brings up the important question: How will the secondary survive an injury to a starting corner?

Last year’s starter, Ambry Thomas, has struggled in camp. His fellow second-year player, Deommodore Lenoir, has flashed but not with the level of consistency necessary, something that popped up when he played last year.

Other young players like Ka’Dar Hollman have been getting snaps, but it’s unclear how they’ll hold up. And that doesn’t begin to touch upon the brewing competition at nickel cornerback, where rookie Samuel Womack may be pushing Darqueze Dennard.

Again, staying true to the overall point of this article, the counting stats are not what particularly matter here. But the Niners need to see how their youth movement at cornerback is progressing.

As last year showed, its depth can make or break a season.

San Francisco and Green Bay kick off on Friday, Aug. 12 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
