5 49ers whose NFL careers may be over if they don’t make 53-man roster

No. 4: 49ers linebacker Segun Olubi
There are plenty of obscure back-end-of-the-roster players on every team heading into the preseason, and many of those names will go back into obscurity after their few glances of field time during this exhibition phase.
Commonly, many of these are undrafted free agents, and one of the 14 UDFAs the 49ers brought aboard following the 2022 NFL Draft, former San Diego State linebacker Segun Olubi, faces about as long of odds as anyone trying to hang around the league.
Olubi, 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, has some modest coverage abilities, and those may work in his favor with the league favoring hybrid-type backers in response to the pass-happy nature that currently exists.
That said, Olubi isn’t going to challenge the starting cast of Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw and Azeez Al-Shaair for a linebacker corps Pro Football Focus ranked No. 1 in the NFL heading into 2022.
And with the Niners already boasting plenty of other depth candidates to round out the depth chart, such as Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, Jeremiah Gemmel and Oren Burks, among others, Olubi is a massive long shot.
Unfortunately, there’s not a lot about him that’d stand out enough to garner interest from other teams unless he absolutely shines during the preseason somehow.
