Fred Warner’s projected role, impact with 49ers this season

Outside of the ever-present injury risk for any player, if you’re worried about Fred Warner in any way, don’t.

A full year into the well-deserved extension he received entering 2021, the 25-year-old Warner will again retain his status as the captain of the defense. And under the second-year tutelage of defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans, whose relationship with Warner has been vital, the linebacker’s role and consistency shouldn’t alter whatsoever.

In front of Warner, San Francisco’s pass rush should be just as potent as it was a year ago with Pro Bowl EDGE Nick Bosa back in the fray, as well as the hopeful infusing of rookie pass-rusher Drake Jackson.

Behind Warner, the addition of Charvarius Ward should beef up the 49ers’ secondary.

Nevertheless, Warner will still be the top figure to watch, both in terms of leadership and prowess on the field, likely leading the 49ers in tackles while impacting a number of other stats, too.

You knew this already, but the Niners sure got a steal with Warner back in 2018.
