49ers best-kept secret No. 1: WR Jauan Jennings
Imagine a tanked NFL Draft stock that relegated you to being a seventh-round pick when first-round status was once in consideration. Then, imagine spending a rookie year on the practice squad.
Well, that’s what awaited wide receiver Jauan Jennings, whose 2020 campaign is probably best forgotten after he didn’t do much to help his cause in training camp.
Last year, however, was the exact opposite.
Completely overshadowed by Deebo Samuel’s All-Pro season last year, and also overlooked because of fellow wideout Brandon Aiyuk, Jennings’ 24 catches for 282 yards and five touchdowns during the regular season don’t exactly jump off the charts.

However, anyone who watched 49ers games last year can attest to just how clutch so many of those grabs were, and considering eight of his 10 third-down catches went for a first down also is a testament to Jennings’ under-the-radar impact.
Now poised to be a big slot in the Niners offense, Jennings already established himself as one of Trey Lance’s favorite targets during offseason workouts, and that’s a trend that should continue into training camp.
Perhaps into the regular season, too.
