Fantasy football: 5 players who’ll be overdrafted in 2022
By Peter Panacy
Overdrafted fantasy football player No. 1: WR D.K. Metcalf, Seahawks
2022 ADP: 3.11
Every now and then, fantasy football owners can strike gold by identifying a wide receiver on a bad team who can put up solid numbers despite sub-par quarterback play.
We shouldn’t assume Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf falls into this category.
Like Deebo Samuel, Metcalf is eagerly awaiting a new contract, and whatever happens there could have some pretty notable fantasy consequences. But let’s focus on the on-field context here. Metcalf’s production in 2021 already took a significant step backward to the tune of 75 receptions for 963 yards and 12 touchdowns (at least those helped) despite still having now-Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson trying to get him the ball for most of 2021.

Now, Seattle is poised in the post-Wilson era to have either Drew Lock or Geno Smith deliver passes to Metcalf.
Metcalf might be the go-to guy anyway, and that’s fine. But the serious decline in quarterback play is going to hinder Metcalf’s overall output, relegating him to the ranks of a decent WR2 or FLEX player amid favorable matchups.
Unless the Seahawks somehow manage to upgrade their quarterback situation between now and Week 1, you’re probably better off letting Metcalf pass to someone else in Round 3, only targeting him much later.
